LTTS Implements Animation: In Quest of the Lost City of Akakor
February 20, 2003
In developing inquiry-based courses it is always a challenge to present
an authentic, relevant problem for a course in a way that will really
engage the learner. The problems are real enough; they come from our
teacher developers and are checked with other teachers. But, the issue
is how to make the problem come alive.
At LTTS we are always evaluating our courses and looking for ways to
improve them. As part of this effort, we realized that using a multimedia
animation to present the problem could help the learner “feel”
the problem. This winter we started the development of a series of Course
Problem animations. The first one is already up! "In Quest of the
Lost City of Akakor" introduces the problem in the WebQuest course.
You can view this animation now in our Featured
Course, just look for the Problem section
of the course.
Each animation presents enough information to make the problem intriguing,
yet treats the problem generally enough to allow learners freedom in
determining the specific “shape” of the solution or product.
If you do view the animation, please let us know what you think! Write
us to ltts@indiana.edu.
